Prerequisite course work is 8 semester hours each of: Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and General Physics, all taken with associated labs. In addition, six hours of English is required. The MCAT is required and scores must be no more than 5 years old. For applicants who have taken the exam more than once, all sets of scores are considered.
Among 1999 graduates, the most popular fields for residencies were the following: Internal Medicine (31%); Pediatrics (10%); Family Practice (21%); Ob/Gyn (21%); Surgery (12%); Radiology (6%); Medicine/Pediatrics (8%). A significant proportion of graduates remains in Tennessee for post-graduate training.
