Louisiana residency is a requirement. Prerequisite courses are 8 semester hours each of Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics, all with associated labs. Strength in both written and spoken English is required. The MCAT is required, and scores should be from within the past three years. For applicants who have taken the exam more than once, the most recent set of scores is weighed most heavily.
The School assists and advises graduating students in obtaining suitable appointments in hospitals. LSU—New Orleans itself offers a comprehensive graduate medical-education program in more than 20 specialty fields.
