Unity Environmental University

The campus of Unity College is 225 acres of fields and woodlands overlooking Unity Pond and the village of Unity, which is located about two hundred miles northeast of Boston. It is within forty miles of Augusta and Bangor; is within fifteen miles of Waterville, and is twenty-five miles from Penobscot Bay and the Atlantic coast. The academic programs of Unity College are enhanced by the rich natural history of the region, from the mountains of western Maine to the rocky eastern coast.

Making the Unity campus a special place means a lot of collaborative adventures happen here. Like the efforts of the Student Government Association, alumni, faculty, and staff to develop a fantastic stone park next to the Quimby Library—giant boulder spires and all. Unity Rocks! Our outdoor community garden supports campus sustainability. Dig in and help grow much of the produce that’s served in our cafeteria and snack bar. For baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, and a walking path, head to the Field of Dreams. Nearby, the Unity Centre for Performing Arts offers a great space for visiting musicians, thespians, and speakers. You may even find yourself on stage as part of a class production exploring environmental ethics, local history, or personal identity. Take a hike or go cross-country skiing over 125 acres in the Unity College trail system. It starts right outside the residence hall doors and passes our outdoor classroom and woodlot. At Unity, you and your classmates can be anywhere, doing just about anything. You’ll get your hands dirty and your feet wet. You’ll learn the theory and apply it in practice. That includes studying water quality at Unity Pond, researching the impact of invasive purple loosestrife on native cattail, learning law enforcement and crime scene investigation techniques to protect users of parks and wilderness areas, writing grants to support environmental policy development, creating nature-focused artwork, or writing newspaper and magazine articles about your passion for mountains, mollusks, or microbes.
