Academics
H. Councill Trenholm State Community College wants to be the launching pad for your future. Preparing students for success is the school's stated mission, whether that's bridging the gap to a four-year university or helping open the doors to the better job opportunities that come from an associate degree or technical certificate. As a regionally accredited institution with connections to public institutions throughout Alabama, students with an associate degree are able to easily transfer to four-year public institutions within the state, as well as other regionally accredited schools. This tremendous opportunity has catapulted countless Trenholm State grads to even brighter futures. The Trenholm advantage includes small class sizes, hands-on learning opportunities, online options, affordable tuition, generous financial aid, day and night classes, and a dedicated faculty. They even offer custom-designed curriculums, targeted coursework, and valuable industry certifications. And with its open admissions policy, Trenholm State helps disadvantaged students obtain real educational opportunities.
Career
With an enrollment of about 1,500 coming from throughout the River Region, Trenholm State is committed to providing cultural and personal development for its community. That means that civic and social opportunities and activities abound, especially within the thriving Student Government Association. With three elected positions and three more appointed officers in the group, it's a great place for those seeking to grow their leadership skills-as well as an opportunity for those seeking more of a support role to participate in the campaigns and election processes of this very active and engaged student government. Trenholm offers a variety of ways for students to connect and be a part of the college. For students who enjoy singing and performing, there is the Trenholm State Collegiate Chorale. There are also multiple organizations for the business and leadership-minded students. The Trenholm State Community College Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) and the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) both help students establish occupational goals, build self-confidence, and learn the interpersonal skills that employers seek. All of these groups are a great way for students to meet new friends and make lifelong connections.
Culture
The school's Student Services department helps each student academically assess their aptitude and options for success. The department guides students to areas of study that align with the student's goals-which is useful, considering that there are over 25 different paths for students to follow, from general studies to computer information systems and culinary arts. The school has many examples of graduates who have turned their education at Trenholm State into a career instead of just a job. They include success stories from people working in the automotive industry and as electricians. One recent shining example of someone embodying the Trenholm State spirit is graduate Cheryl Ransaw, whose Trenholm-honed leadership skills were on display in her 2021 work as an event coordinator for the Women of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
